Comment
After the end of World War II, under the peace treaty signed with Italy, the Italian-occupied Dodecanese islands were ceded to Greece. The official unification ceremony took place on 7 March 1948.The coin was issued in bankrolls and in Proof quality along with the Official Hellenic Proof Euro Coin Set in a wooden box with the certificate of authenticity.

The Union of the Dodecanese with Greece 2 Euro coin features a unique design that represents the union of the Dodecanese Islands with Greece. The coin's obverse side features a depiction of a ship, symbolizing the journey of the Dodecanese Islands towards unity with Greece, while the reverse side features a map of the Dodecanese Islands and the Greek mainland, highlighting their connection. This design was created by artist Georgios Stamatopoulos and was chosen through a national competition.
