Comment

The proclamation of King Felipe VI, which took place on Thursday, June 19, 2014, was the solemn act in which the King of Spain, before the Cortes Generales, took the oath to perform the functions that the Spanish Constitution of 1978 attributes to him, to keep and ensure that the laws are kept and to respect the rights of citizens and the Spanish autonomous communities. The ascension of Felipe VI to the Crown of Spain took place on the same day, the moment in which his father's abdication became effective when Organic Law 3/2014, of June 18, came into effect, which makes the abdication of King Juan Carlos I.

Interesting fact

The 2 Euro commemorative coin celebrating Philip VI's accession to the Spanish throne in 2014 features a unique design that represents the monarch's commitment to environmental sustainability. The coin's outer ring is made of a copper-nickel alloy, while the inner circle is made of nickel brass, giving it a distinctive bimetallic look. This design choice not only adds aesthetic value to the coin but also symbolizes the importance of preserving the environment for future generations, which is a key aspect of Philip VI's reign.
