Comment
Spain started the commemorative coin series “Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO” (UNESCO World Heritage) in 2010, commemorating all of Spain's UNESCO World Heritage Sites, which could continue until 2050. The order in which the coin for a specific site is issued coincides with the order in which they were declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Cave of Altamira contains examples of cave painting from the Upper Paleolithic period, ranging from 35,000 to 11,000 BC. The original listing contained seventeen decorated caves. The caves are well-preserved because of their deep isolation from the external climate.
Interesting fact
The interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique design that showcases the prehistoric cave paintings found in the Cave of Altamira in Spain. The coin's reverse side features an image of a bison, which is one of the most well-known and iconic images from the cave paintings. The use of bimetallic material and the combination of nickel brass and copper-nickel ring gives the coin a distinctive look and feel. Additionally, the coin's weight of 8.5 grams makes it a substantial and notable piece in the world of numismatics.
