In 1890, the German firm L. Chr. Lauer made a series of patterns commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Mexican Independence. 21 coins were issued with the same obverse but with different reverse. The reverse had the different names of the mexican states.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Pattern 2 Centavos (Pattern; Mexican Independence; Silver-plated Bronze) 1890 from Mexico is that it was designed by the Mexican artist and engraver, José María Fernández. He was known for his work on various Mexican coins and banknotes, and his design for this coin features an image of a winged Victory holding a laurel wreath and a broken chain, symbolizing Mexico's independence from Spain. The coin's obverse side features the Mexican coat of arms, while the reverse side features the denomination and the year of issue. The use of silver-plated bronze for this coin was a cost-saving measure, as silver was a more expensive metal at the time. Despite its relatively low value, this coin is a sought-after collector's item due to its historical significance and unique design.
