"The coins were ordered in 1955 from the Societé Orientale des Metaux Precioux, P.O. Box 1113, Beirut, Lebanon, and the first shipment reached Yemen, via Aden, early in 1956. Issue to the public took place in May 1956."
Interesting fact
The 1/40 Riyal coin from the Mutawakkilite Kingdom (North Yemen) is interesting because it was issued during a time of great political and economic change in the region. In 1956, the kingdom was facing challenges from both internal political divisions and external threats, including the nearby Egyptian and Saudi Arabian kingdoms. Despite these challenges, the kingdom was able to issue this coin, which features a unique design and is made of aluminum, a relatively rare metal for coins at the time. This coin is a testament to the resilience and resourcefulness of the Mutawakkilite Kingdom during a period of great turmoil.
