In a glassy oval of the centre – a battle scene, to the left – a troop of Russian warriors galloping with drawn swords, above them – a waving gonfalon with the image of the Saviour, behind them to the left – a mighty tree, to the right – a troop of the Golden Horde warriors armed with bows and galloping towards the Russian warriors, above them – flying arrows, behind them to the right – two jurts (nomad’s tents). In the upper part of the coin’s disc – stylized images of the sun, moon and stars. On the matted sector of the coin’s disc framing the glassy oval, at the top – the host of celestial patrons, at the bottom – smallstylized figures of three birds and three wolfs with open chaps. In the lower part of the coin’s disc – a cartouche with the inscription in four lines: «625 ЛЕТИЕ КУЛИКОВСКОЙ БИТВЫ» (THE 625THANNIBERSARY OF THE BATTLE ON KULIKOVO FIELD), to the left from it – a shield and a sword, to the right – a bow and a quiver with arrows.

Date of issue: 03 AUG 2005On September 8, 1380 the host of Dmitriy Ivanovich, the Grand Duke of Moscow and Vladimir, gained an absolute victory on Kulikovo Field over the Golden Horde troops led by its ruler Mamay. The Battle on Kulikovo Field was of great significance in the struggle of Russian and other peoples against the Tartar-Mongolian yoke. The dominance of the Golden Horde had been struck heavily on Kulikovo Field, so that it forced its following breakdown. An important consequence of the Battle on Kulikovo Field was the strengthening the role of Moscow by formation of the Russian State.

The Battle on Kulikovo Field coin was minted to commemorate the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Kulikovo, which took place in 1380. The battle was a significant event in Russian history, as it marked a decisive victory for the Russian forces over the Mongol Empire, which had been occupying Russia for over a century.
