Comment

Britannia is flanked by an ornate oriental border inspired by the Chinese-themed rooms at Buckingham Palace and the Royal Pavilion in Brighton. The design has similarities to the British Trade Dollar first struck for use in the Far East during the reign of Queen Victoria. The coin was also struck in silver, while each year has an issue limit of 5,000.

A proof version was also struck in 2018 with plain fields on both obverse and reverse. See separate entry.

Each year issue features a slightly different border design:

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique oriental border design, which sets it apart from other coins in the Elizabeth II series. The oriental border is a nod to the cultural and historical ties between the United Kingdom and the Far East, and it adds an extra layer of beauty and sophistication to the coin's design.
