NOTES:-Templates used for the dies were made at Spain.
- Previous KM# TS9
- Dies used were the same as for KM# 43 (Gold issue), unmodified, so they read the weight and metal used on final issue, that do not match with weight and metal used in this trial strike.
This pattern was a dies trial for KM# 43, this is the reason of it shows ""AV'0.917" (gold 0.917) on obverse, and not the real material and weight; also minted in BU quality instead of Proof, like the definitive coins. Design of both sides are exactly the same as on KM# 43.
Carlos Manuel de Céspedes (1819-1874) was a Cuban lawyer and landowner who started the first of the three independence wars in Cuba (known as "Guerra Grande" ("Big War") or "Guerra de los Diez Años" ("Ten Years War"). On 1868 he freed his slaves and invited them to join him to fight for Cuban Independence; is known as "Grito de Yara" ("Yara Cry").

Interesting fact
The Pattern 100 Pesos (Carlos Manuel de Céspedes-Trial Strike) 1977 from Cuba made of Copper is a rare and unique coin, with only 20 examples known to exist. It was minted in 1977 as a trial strike, and it features the portrait of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, a Cuban revolutionary leader, on one side, and the national coat of arms on the other. The coin was never officially released into circulation, making it a highly sought-after collector's item among numismatists.
