Decree No. 21.189 of 02MAY1931:Extinguish the island soft currency regime (-25% than the mainland currency). In the period 1910-1931, no coins were issued for the islands of the Azores and Madeira. Not later either.
The commemorative coins issued in 1980 and 1986, which the Krausse and Alberto Gomes catalogs identify as coins for these territories, are in reality continental commemorative coins circulated throughout the Portuguese territory (Mainland + Azores + Madeira). They only celebrate the governmental autonomy of these islands.
Issued in a set with the Esc 25 coin.
Interesting fact
The 100 Escudos coin from Madeira's Regional Autonomy, Portugal, 1981, is interesting because it features a unique design that showcases the island's rich history and culture. The obverse side of the coin depicts the coat of arms of Madeira, while the reverse side features a portrait of Christopher Columbus, who is believed to have visited the island in the 15th century. This coin is a great collector's item for anyone interested in numismatics or the history of Portugal and its regions.
