The coin's obverse side depicts a stylized image of a Kanak warrior, while the reverse side features a map of New Caledonia surrounded by the words "République Française" and "Territoire d'Outre-Mer de Nouvelle-Calédonie." This design was created by the French engraver and sculptor, Pierre-Charles L'Enfant, and was intended to be used as a prototype for a new series of coins for New Caledonia.
