Reverse
Marked with a double date ("1870-2020") to mark the 150ᵉ anniversary of Canada's first national currency, the reverse is a reproduction of Leonard C. Wyon's design of crossed maple boughs surmounted by the crown of St. Edward, which appeared on the coins of the four denominations (5, 10, 25 and 50 cents) issued by the Dominion of Canada in 1870.

Comment
150 years ago, our newly-formed country issued its first coins. To mark this anniversary, Leonard C. Wyon's historic maple bough motif is back in use on a commemorative $10 coin, with a low mintage, that pays tribute to Canada's first national currency.History on both sides
True to history, the coin reproduces on both obverse and reverse the design conceived in 1870 by Royal Mint engraver Leonard C. Wyon, including the laurelled effigy of Queen Victoria that then appeared on the 5-cent and 10-cent coins.
Two dates on the reverse
The reverse is an almost exact reproduction of the original design. The only modern addition to the classic image is the double date "1870-2020", which marks the 150ᵉ anniversary of Canada's first national currency.
DID YOU KNOW?
For the portrait of Queen Victoria reproduced on the obverse of this coin, Leonard C. Wyon was inspired by the effigy of the young Queen (1838-1895) designed by his father, William Wyon (1795-1851), former Chief Engraver of the Royal Mint.
Although the maple branches appear symmetrical, they actually have 21 leaves: 11 on the left and 10 on the right. A 22-leaf wreath was introduced in 1882.
Packaging
Each coin is individually encapsulated and presented in a double-shell case featuring the Royal Canadian Mint logo. The case comes with a black protective box.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique reverse design that showcases a stylized maple leaf, which is a symbol of Canada, surrounded by a pattern of interlocking diamonds. The design is meant to represent the country's diversity, inclusivity, and strong sense of community.
