The Singapore 1976 and 1977 $10 silver coins were released following the 1975 $10 silver coin, which was issued to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Singapore's independence. While retained the obverse and reverse designs of the latter, these coins feature different obverse legends surrounding the coat-of-arms. The obverse legends were similar to other $10 commemorative coins issued between 1972 and 1980.The 1976 coin was first released on the 19 January 1976 and was retailed with an issue price of S$10.60. The proof version was then released on the 6 July 1976 with an issue price of S$30.00. The subsequent 1977 coin was released on the 7 February 1977 and was retailed at the same price. The proof version was issued on the 8 August 1977. All the coins were sold individually. None were included in the respective years clad uncirculated coin set or the silver coin proof set.
The proof coin was presented in a clamshell wooden box. A numbered Certificate of Authenticity was included. The 1976 proof case had a green colour insert while the 1977 case had a blue colour insert. Please see the following images for the proof coins in their respective case as well as the certificate for the 1977 coin.
Unlike the 1975 coin, the proof versions in 1976 and 1977 had the Singapore Mint SM-mintmark on the obverse. The mintmark is located at the lower right corner, just above the E in SINGAPORE. Please see the following images which illustrates the mark on the 1977 coin.
The 1977 non-proof was issued in a red plastic wallet as below
