This coin is the third in our popular series of 12 O Canada 1/2 oz fine silver coins featuring iconic images of Canada, in tribute to our country. For over 130 years, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has been protecting Canadians and the country's sovereignty. Not only has it played a founding role in the history of western Canadian settlement, it has also demonstrated, from the very beginning, the qualities that make Canada special: pragmatism, justice and cooperation. The scarlet-coated constable symbolizes all these qualities that make Canadians proud, and is an emblematic figure of Canada the world over.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique reverse design that showcases the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in a historical setting, with a depiction of a mounted police officer on a horse, along with a dog sled team and a maple leaf. This design was created by Canadian artist Bonnie Ross and was the first time the RCMP was featured on a Canadian coin.
