A beloved military tradition.

It's one of Canada's most famous military traditions, and a popular summer attraction in the heart of the nation's capital! Every morning, from late June to late August, the Changing of the Guard ceremony unfolds with pomp and musical pageantry on Ottawa's Parliament Hill. Dressed in scarlet tunics and topped with high black bearskin caps, members of the Ceremonial Guard drill and march with panache to the sound of the regimental band, which leads the way on this fine silver coin.

The O Canada! series continues with the issue of this fourth coin, which brings us close to the Changing of the Guard ceremony, one of the six emblematic images of Canada in 2020.

Did you know?
The first Changing of the Guard on Parliament Hill took place on July 2, 1959.
In addition to the ceremony on Parliament Hill, the Ceremonial Guard also performs sentry duty at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and at Rideau Hall, the official residence of the Governor General of Canada.
The Ceremonial Guard is made up of members of the Canadian Armed Forces. It preserves the customs and traditions of the Guard's two regiments, the Governor General's Foot Guards (GGFG) and the Canadian Grenadier Guards (CGG). If you see these soldiers in person, note the color of the plume on their black bearskin caps: a red plume represents the GGFGs, while a white plume represents the CGGs.
The black bearskin caps worn by members of the Canadian Ceremonial Guard are carefully preserved, and are all over 20 years old!

Packaging
Each piece is individually encapsulated, and together, the six pieces make a magnificent collection in their presentation box.Automatically translated
