The Board of Commisioners of Currency, Singapore (BCCS) issued the 1980 $10 Communication Satellite uncirculated pure-nickel coin on the 06Feb1980 and the subsequent pure-nickel proof version on the 22Dec1980. The uncirculated nickel coin had a mintage of 120,000 and an issue price of S$10.50, while the proof nickel coin had a mintage of 15,000 and an issue price of S$30.00.The uncirculated nickel coins were typically issued in an auspicious red folder with the Chinese character for Blessings on the front cover. Coins were not encapsulated and placed inside a clear plastic sleeve.
The proof nickel coins were issued individually in a clamshell case. Unlike previous $10 silver proof coins of the Freighter and Communication Satellite series, these nickel proof coins did not have the Singapore Mint mintmark. Coins were issued in capsules.
