Comment
New Zealand’s Māori culture is a vital part of our national identity. The 10-cent coin features a Māori carved mask, known as a ‘koruru’, with rafter patterns. Traditionally, a koruru is carved into the gables of the meeting house and is seen as the ‘guardian of the house’.
Minted in Proof Finish by the Royal Dutch Mint each coin is specially dated 2024 and is the first to feature the portrait of King Charles III.
The Proof coin is also composed of different metal to the circulation issue. Instead of Copper plated Steel it is made of Copper. The Proof set says it is Copper-nickel but that is an error.
Interesting fact
The 10 Cents - Charles III (1st Portrait) 2024 coin made of Copper (Non-Magnetic) weighing 3.7 g is a non-circulating coin, meaning it is not intended for general circulation and is instead produced in limited quantities for collectors or special occasions.
