In 1903, coins were minted for both this type and KM# 52. They can be distinguished by the size of the digits in the date. This is the "small date" type, and the hole inside the '0' will be more squared off compared to the longer, oval shape in KM# 52.Coins with date 1901 and designer initials A.M. are considered trial strikes, which you find

Interesting fact
The coin features a portrait of King Léopold II, who was the ruler of Belgium from 1865 until his death in 1909. During his reign, Léopold II was known for his expansionist policies, particularly in the Congo Free State, which was a private colony he owned. The coin's design was created by the artist Charles-Auguste Fraikin, who was a prominent sculptor and engraver in Belgium at the time.
