GEM#35.1 Thinner recessed legends and inner circles delimiting the portrait and smaller face value.Without the word "ESSAI". Recessed legends on the crown, facial value in relief. Magnetic blank. There is a series of tests on nickel blanks with punch marks recessed into the blank, used to number the blanks. The punches, numbered 1 to 9, are placed either on the reverse (8 and 9) or on the obverse (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5). Grading is the same as without hallmark. There are three variations: without listels. Thinner, recessed legends and smaller inner circles delimiting the portrait and face value. Legends in relief on the obverse and recessed on the reverse, with smaller inner circles. These last two variants are new, as the ribs are doubled.
GEM35.4
With the word "ESSAI". Characterized by dashes on either side of the date, instead of stars. This coin also exists with two stars or two dots surrounding the date.
