Issued to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday with a limited release effigy by James Butler MBE RA, only for 2016. This sovereign was issued in a 5-coin set (573 sales), in a premium 3-coin set (348 sales), in a standard 3-coin set (745 sales) and as individual pieces (7,995 sales).

Since 2009 the full sovereign has omitted the streamer from the helmet of St George however the other sovereign denominations continue to have the streamer.
The Brilliant Uncirculated and Bullion issues for 2016 do not feature the Butler effigy obverse.
