The first thaler-sized coin of the Spanish Netherlands. They were also struck in Flanders (Bruges), Gelderland (Nimège) and Holland (Dordrecht).

Known as a Florin Karolus d'argent (French) or Zilveren Karolusgulden (Dutch).
The later type is most easily discerned by the different shield/arms reverse (see link).

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1 Silver Gulden "Karolus" - Charles V (Early type) ND (1544-1552) coin is that it features an image of Charles V, the Holy Roman Emperor, on one side, and a crowned shield with the coat of arms of the Duchy of Brabant on the other. This coin was minted during Charles V's reign, and it was used as a standard circulation coin in the Spanish Netherlands, which is now modern-day Belgium.
