Comment

A rare and possibly unique issue often listed as a “Pattern Mule”, this coin is a combination of an older type of Indian Rupee (issued under Victoria only) and a large type Edward VII Straits Settlements Half Dollar. It was likely used as a pocket piece, considering the wear, and may have been made specifically for a person of importance, possibly as a pocket piece (thus listed here as a non-circulating coin). 1907B is listed here as the obverse has a mintmark, indicating that it is uses a 1905B die and the reverse is a modification of the rupee series that ended in 1901. Another such mule, with a different reverse design (the contemporary design) is known.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it is a rare mule coin, meaning it has a combination of features from two different coin designs. Specifically, it has the obverse (front) of the Straits Settlements coinage and the reverse (back) of the British India coinage, which makes it a unique and highly sought-after collector's item among numismatists.
