Date of issue: 10 NOV 1993Alexander Porfiryevich Borodin (1833-1887) - a Russian composer and chemist who achieved outstanding results in both fields. A member of the so-called Mighty Handful, a group of leading Russian composers of the time, he wrote the world-famous opera "Prince Igor" and a number of symphonies, quartets, romances and instrumental compositions depicting in a dramatic way scenes from Russian people's life.
