Due to the "Liberal Revolution" of 1871, Guatemala removed itself from the Latin Monetary Union. Real coinage was reintroduced and the Guatemalan Peso was defined as 25.4 grams of .900 silver.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1878 Guatemalan 1 Real coin is that it features a unique design that reflects the country's rich cultural heritage. The obverse side of the coin depicts the Guatemalan coat of arms, which includes a quetzal bird, a symbol of freedom and independence, surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves. The reverse side of the coin features a depiction of the volcano Fuego, which is located near the city of Antigua and is one of the country's most iconic natural landmarks. The coin's design was created by the Guatemalan artist and engraver, José María González, and it has become a beloved symbol of Guatemalan identity and pride.
