Comment
This is the third time Eric Sewell's 'Royal Arms' reverse design has appeared on the £1 coin. It was originally used on the first-round pound, issued in 1983, paired with the Arnold Machin second portrait of HM The Queen and then it featured on the 1993 issue, paired with the Raphael Maklouf third portrait on the obverse. The 1998 strike was issued individually, while also being struck in nickel-brass and silver piedfort

The 2003 strike was issued individually even though it was the 20th anniversary of the £1 coin no special issue was released; the design was also struck in nickel-brass and silver piedfort.

The design was also struck in gold proof and platinum proof.
The 2013 strike was issued in a 3-coin set to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the £1 coin alongside the Crowned Royal Shield design by Derek Gorringe and the Royal Shield design by Matthew Dent. It was also struck in gold proof.
