The first of four Edwina Ellis bridge designs, the Forth Railway Bridge is a cantilever railway bridge over the Firth of Forth in the east of Scotland, 9 miles (14 km) west of Edinburgh city centre. It is considered an iconic structure and a symbol of Scotland (having been voted Scotland's greatest man-made wonder in 2016) and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.The 2004 coin was issued individually and later as part of the 4-coin set, it was also struck in nickel-brass, silver proof and silver piedfort. The 2008 piece was issued in a 14-piece set to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the £1 coin and was also struck in silver proof with selective gold plating.
