There are certain varieties in Cyprus Victoria bronze coins. For coins minted in 1881 and 1882 there are varieties with and without H. A small H above the date indicates that those coins were struck at the mint of Ralph Heaton and Sons, Birmingham, England (now The Mint, Birmingham, Ltd.)Other varieties are:
1881H: There are two major varieties of this coin
a) Obverse: Small letters and figures, with last serif of H over the figure 1 of date. Reverse: The figure 1 in center 2 mm wide. This variety is of the style 1879 and 1881 without mintmark.
b) Obverse: Larger letters and figures, with letter H between 18 and 81 of date 1881. Reverse: The figure 1 in center 2,7 mm wide.
From 1882 onwards (1892-1900) the letters and figures are larger on Obverse and figure 1 in center 2,7 mm wide on Reverse.
Interesting fact
The 1 Piastre coin from Cyprus featuring Queen Victoria was minted during a time of great change and transition for the island nation. In 1878, Cyprus was annexed by the British Empire and became a British colony, with Queen Victoria serving as its monarch. The coin's design, featuring a young Queen Victoria, reflects this period of British rule and the coin's bronze composition was a common material used for coinage during this time. Despite the coin's age, it remains a popular collector's item and a symbol of Cyprus' rich history.
