In 1869, Guatemala attempted to adopt the standards of the Latin Monetary Unit. To this effect, the Guatemalan Peso was fixed to 25 grams of .900 silver.
Due to the "Liberal Revolution", Guatemala removed itself from the Latin Monetary Union in 1871. The real system was reintroduced and the Peso was defined as 25.4 grams of .900 silver.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1 Peso (Rafael Carrera) coin from Guatemala is that it was minted during a time of political and economic change in the country. The coin was introduced in 1869, just a year after Guatemala had declared its independence from Spain, and it was used as a standard circulation coin until 1871. This coin was made of silver and copper, with a weight of 25 grams, and it features an image of Rafael Carrera, who was the president of Guatemala at the time. The coin's design and materials reflect the country's efforts to establish its own currency and economic system after gaining independence.
