Comment
Christopher Columbus discovered America on October 12th., 1492, and also discovered Cuba on same trip.Pinta was the fastest of the 3 vessels used, and from it, Rodrigo de Triana (real name Juan Rodríguez Bermejo) saw America's land for the first time.
Also Pinta was the first to reach back Spain and give the news of the discovery (in fact they still thought was India, not a new continent).
The name Pinta can be translated as "painted" or "coloured", but some versions point to it was after late owner's family Pinto.

Interesting fact
The 1981 Cuban 1 Peso (Pinta) coin features a unique design that showcases the country's rich history and culture. On the obverse side of the coin, there is an image of a Taino Indian, who was the indigenous people of Cuba before the arrival of European colonizers. The Taino Indian is depicted in a traditional headdress and holding a staff, which symbolizes the island's rich cultural heritage. The reverse side of the coin features a stunning image of a Spanish galleon, which represents the country's colonial past and its connection to the sea. The coin's design is a nod to Cuba's diverse history and its blend of indigenous and colonial influences.
