Comment

These coins were minted to the specifications of the Latin Monetary Union. When the government of Honduras pegged its currency for 2:1 to the United States Dollar in 1918, these coins had a nominal face value of 50 cents despite containing 80-90 cents worth of silver. Additionally, due to the poor refining process, these coins contain traces of gold. Starting in 1919, these coins were melted for their gold content. By 1920, about 90% of these coins had been melted.

Interesting fact

The 1 Peso coin from Honduras, minted between 1883 and 1914, has an interesting feature. It was made of a unique alloy, consisting of 90% silver and 10% copper, which gives it a distinctive look and durability.
