Comment

1992 saw the changeover from bronze to copper-plated steel for both the 1p & 2p to reduce the cost of production. Both bronze and copper-plated steel 1992 coins can be found, however those in Proof & Brilliant Uncirculated sets were struck in Bronze, while circulation strikes were copper-plated steel.

1991 reverse die varieties:

Type A (1985-92) Junctions of portcullis bars are raised dots;
Type B (1991-92) Junctions of portcullis bars are incuse circles.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1 Penny - Elizabeth II (3rd portrait; non-magnetic) 1985-1992 from United Kingdom (United Kingdom, British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies) made of Bronze weighing 3.56 g is that it was the first coin to feature the third portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which was designed by Raphael Maklouf. This portrait was used on all British coins from 1985 until 1997, when it was replaced by the fourth portrait of the Queen.
