The Society of Suriname was a Dutch private company profiting from the management of the Dutch colony of Suriname. The participants were the city of Amsterdam, the family Van Aerssen van Sommelsdijck and the West India Company, although every citizen from the Dutch Republic was allowed to trade with Suriname. The society ceased to exist as of 1795.

Interesting fact

The 1 Duit 1764 coin from Suriname was minted during the Dutch colonial period, and it features an image of a sailing ship on its reverse side. This ship is believed to represent the Dutch East India Company's ship, the "De Zeeuwsche Stroom," which was used to transport goods and people between the Netherlands and Suriname. The inclusion of this image on the coin highlights the importance of trade and commerce between the two regions during that time period.
