Comment
Part of series of 4 coins (photos from Westminster Collections):
Robert Falcon Scott: also known as ‘Scott of the Antarctic’, was a naval officer and explorer whose mission to reach the Sount Pole before anyone else was thwarted on 17 January 1912 when he arrived at the South Pole only to find he had been not long beaten to it by a Norwegian party.
Interesting fact
The coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on one side and Robert Falcon Scott on the other. Scott was a British explorer who led two expeditions to the Antarctic in the early 20th century. The coin was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Scott's ill-fated Terra Nova Expedition, which took place from 1910 to 1913.
