Comment
Part of series of 4 coins (photos from Westminster Collections):
Captain James Cook: an 18th century explorer whose achievements mapping the Pacific, New Zealand and Australia radically changed western perceptions of world geography. Most famously, he was the first European to set foot in Australia, claiming it for Great Britain.
Interesting fact
The Captain James Cook coin was issued to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Cook's first voyage to the Pacific in 1768. The coin features an image of Cook's ship, the HMS Endeavour, on the reverse side, along with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse side. The coin's design was created by artist and historian, Dr. John M. Thomas, who is known for his work on various commemorative coins and stamps.
