HM The Queen visited New Zealand between 12-20 October 1981, following a Commonwealth Heads of Government conference in Melbourne, Australia. The reverse design of this coin symbolises the close relationship between New Zealand and the United Kingdom. It features the leaf and acorns of the English Oak, and the leaves and seed cone of the New Zealand Kauri.
The coin was issued in the usual square plastic Jewel case. (75,000 copies)
It was also included in the Annual 7 Coin Uncirculated Coin Set. (25,000 copies)
