Muttaburrasaurus is a genus of ornithopod dinosaur that existed in the Cretaceous Period between 112 and 102 million years ago. The dinosaur was discovered by Doug Langdon on a property near Muttaburra, Queensland. The remains which comprised about 60% of the skeleton including a skull were collected soon after by the Queensland Museum. Muttaburrasaurus langdoni which means Langdon's Muttaburra Lizard was scientifically described and named by Dr Alan Bartholomai and Dr Ralph Molnar.Last of a five coin set.
Interesting fact
The Muttaburrasaurus, featured on the 2015 Australian $1 Non-Circulating coin, was a herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous period, approximately 100 million years ago. It had a distinctive long neck and tail, and its name means "Muttaburra's lizard" in the local Aboriginal language.
