The Coinage Act of 12 February, 1873, increased the standard weight of dimes from 38¹∕₅ grains (2.49 grams) to a metric standard of 2½ grams (38.58 grains). Arrows were placed either side of the date to signify this change. These coins saw frequent circulation in Nicaragua.

Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1873-1874 Seated Liberty Dime is that it was the first dime to feature the arrows at the date, which were added to indicate the change in the weight of the coin from 2.70 grams to 2.50 grams. This change was made to comply with the Coinage Act of 1873, which aimed to reduce the amount of silver used in coinage. The arrows were placed on either side of the date to indicate that the coin was minted with a different weight than previous dimes. This feature makes the 1873-1874 Seated Liberty Dime a unique and interesting collector's item for numismatists.
