Urraca was an Indian chief from the Province of Veraguas, who fought the Spaniards in Panamá between 1520 and 1531. The arc of 9 stars on reverse represent the 9 provinces of Panamá at that time (today 10).

Interesting fact

The 1 Centésimo coin from Panama was designed by artist José de la Vega, and it features the image of a native woman wearing a traditional Panamanian hat, known as a "mola," on the obverse side. The reverse side of the coin features the coat of arms of Panama and the inscription "1 Centésimo" and "República de Panamá" (Republic of Panama).
