Due to inflation, the value of copper in 1 Centavo coins was more than face value. The size of these coins was reduced to the old 1/2 Centavo coins.
Interesting fact
The 1 Centavo (Mule) coin from Honduras, minted between 1910 and 1911, is interesting because it features a unique blend of two different designs on its obverse and reverse sides. The obverse bears the image of a liberty cap, while the reverse features a depiction of a mountain and volcano, symbolizing the country's natural resources and geography. This blend of designs is known as a "mule" in numismatics and is considered a rare and valuable variation in the coin's design.
