These coins were struck for both Suriname and Curaçao:1942 (P)
------ 500'000 Curaçao
------ 2'000'000 Suriname
While Krause lists these coins under Curaçao (KM#39a), more coins were struck for Suriname though, where it is listed as well. Discussion has taken place where to put these coins in the Numista catalog. In the Dutch catalog Muntalmanak (Schulman), the coin is placed under the Netherlands and in the Dutch catalog regarding the overseas territories (Scholten) the coins can be found under the West-Indies section (1365).
The concerning referees decided to put them under both the countries on Numista.
Krause as well as Schulman (2023) mention this type in brass (Suriname KM# 10, Curaçao KM# 39b), but it is not mentioned by Scholten (1951) or Passon (2022) for that year (only 1943). Passon (2022) also makes note of a stainless steel type (weight 3.5 gram).
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1942 Suriname 1 Cent coin is that it features a unique design that reflects the country's history and culture. The obverse side of the coin depicts a portrait of Queen Wilhelmina, who was the Queen of the Netherlands at the time, while the reverse side features a traditional Surinamese motif of a rice stalk and a cotton plant, symbolizing the country's agricultural heritage. This design was created by the Dutch artist, J.J. van der Velden, and it sets the coin apart from other coins of the same denomination and era.
