Comment

Dalton & Hamer Middlesex Political & Social Series. This was designed to make a satirical comment against the French, whose revolution had just overthrown the monarchy. The DH#1016 version has the same reverse but with larger letters which on the second line the first and last letters touch the edge.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Token ½ Penny (Middlesex - Map of France) 1794 from United Kingdom is that it was issued during a time of economic crisis and currency shortages in the late 18th century. The coin was minted by a private company, the Middlesex Company, and was intended to serve as a substitute for the official copper coins of the time, which were in short supply. The coin's design features a map of France on one side and the denomination on the other, and it was made of copper, a relatively inexpensive metal at the time. Despite its origins as a token coin, the Token ½ Penny (Middlesex - Map of France) 1794 has become a sought-after collector's item among numismatists today.
