Comment

All 1938 proof denominations had an original mintage of 100 pieces. The threepence was the only one to have sold out. The majority of these mintages were sold abroad, particularly in the United States Of America. 78 coins of the 100 half pennies minted were sold, the rest presumably melted down and destroyed.

1939 proof half pennies were struck under the same regulations as in the year before, with a mintage of 100 pieces. In both years, these half pennies were sold for one shilling over face value. (1s 1/2d)

Interesting fact

The 1938-1939 Australian bronze ½ penny coin featuring George VI is interesting because it was minted during a time of significant economic and political change in Australia. The coin was minted during the reign of King George VI, who was the monarch of Australia at the time, and it was produced during a period of economic depression in the country. Despite the economic challenges, the coin was still widely used and circulated, and it remains a valuable collector's item today.
