Comment

Half Gros, undated, part of the first issue of John of Bavaria, struck the workshop of Luxembourg City.

This is the Luxembourgish coin with the largest number of variants of legend and punctuation. Weiller alone has listed 12 for the obverse and 18 for the reverse. In total, 39 combinations are identified (Weiller, p. 97-98).

Other legends and combinations exist, the piece of this sheet is part of it. The obverse corresponds to W#183 k. and the reverse is similar to W#183 m. but without annulus before LVCЄ. However, the DSML has listed this legend under number 192.

The average weight on 167 pieces was 1.19 g.
The minimum value was 0.93 g. and the maximum 1.54 g. (Weiller, p. 98)

Interesting fact

The ½ Gros coin from the Duchy of Luxembourg, issued during the reign of John of Bavaria (1419-1425), features an interesting design element - a stylized image of a lion, which was a symbol of strength and courage in medieval times.
