Interesting fact
The ½ Cent coin from South Africa's 1st decimal series (1961-1964) was the first coin to feature the image of a Black person on a South African coin. The coin depicts a portrait of a Black woman wearing a traditional headdress, symbolizing the diversity of the South African population. This was a significant departure from the previous coinage that featured mostly white figures and was a step towards representing the country's diverse population.
