Comment

The Copper PPPP Coin Series (1693-1699); in the face values of V, X and XX Reis; it was minted at the Mint of Porto, in Portugal, to circulate in Angola. Due to the needs that were present in the Colony of Brazil, its circulation in Brazil was authorized through the Royal Charter of February 10, 1704.
This rare coin, despite authorization, never circulated in Brazil

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the V Reis - Pedro II (Porto) 1695-1696 coin from Angola is that it was minted during a time of great change and turmoil in the region. The coin was issued by the Portuguese Empire, which had colonized Angola in the late 15th century and established a system of slavery and exploitation that would last for centuries. The coin's minting in 1695-1696 coincided with the height of the transatlantic slave trade, and it is likely that many of the coins were used to purchase enslaved Africans who were then shipped to the Americas to work on plantations. Despite its dark history, the coin remains an important artifact and a reminder of the complex and often painful history of the region.
