The Uncia coin was the first Roman coin to feature the image of a human being. The obverse side of the coin depicts the head of a bearded man, believed to be a representation of the Roman god Janus, while the reverse side features the prow of a ship and a dolphin. This design was a departure from the earlier Roman coins that featured only symbols and letters, and marked a significant shift in Roman coinage design.
