Comment
We consider this coin from Porto and not from Lisbon as mentioned in Alberto Gomes catalogue for the following reasons:1-The lettering starting from with EMANVEL:... and not I:EMANVEL:....
2-The mark of the manufacturing team is unique "·º·" and only appears in the Porto mint.
3-In Lisbon the use of И is normal and, at Porto it rarely appears.
The lettering is the oldest of this king and, therefore, we believe that the coins with this lettering are the first minted (1504).
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Tostão "o-V" coin is that it was minted during the reign of King Manuel I of Portugal, who ruled from 1495 to 1521. The coin's design features the king's crowned bust on one side and the coat of arms of Portugal on the other. The coin was made of silver (.916) and weighs 9.8 grams. It was a standard circulation coin during its time and is now considered a valuable collector's item.
