Honoré II assumed the title of Prince in 1612 with the help of his uncle Frédéric Landi de Valdetare, Prince of the Holy Roman Empire and Grand of Spain, a title officially recognized in 1633 by the King of Spain. By virtue of its symbolic legend and motif (the phœnix rising from its ashes), this coin destined for the Levant was undoubtedly contemporary with the 1660 marriage of Honoré II's grandson, the future Prince Louis 1er, to Marie Landi de Valdetare. This explains the joint presence of the Grimaldi and Valdetare arms in the quartered coat of arms, following the Italian model of the time found on Levant coins.
The motifs chosen for this exceptional piece are in harmony with those of the 1657 Izelotte.
