Interesting fact
The obverse (front) side of the coin features a portrait of the Greek goddess Athena, while the reverse (back) side depicts a mythical creature called a griffin. The griffin was a symbol of protection and guardianship in ancient Greek mythology, and its presence on the coin may have been intended to protect the city of Abdera and its citizens from harm.
