Interesting fact
The obverse (front) side of the coin features a portrait of the mythical creature, Medusa, with snakes for hair and a fierce expression. This image was a common motif in ancient Greek coinage and symbolized the power and protection of the goddess Athena, who was revered as the patron deity of the city of Myrina.
