Comment
This teston was authroized by a decree of 15 october, 1709. By later in the same year, its value was set at 1 livre, 6 sous (deSaulcy, p. 197).The KM catalog cites earlier dates for this coin, but they are unlikely because of use of this bust was unknown before 1704 on Lorraine coins. deSaulcy mentions only 1709 and 1710.
Interesting fact
The Teston - Leopold I (round shield) coin from the Duchy of Lorraine (French States) was minted during a time of great economic and political change in Europe. The coin was issued during the reign of Leopold I, who was the Duke of Lorraine from 1690 until his death in 1729. During his reign, Leopold I implemented a number of economic reforms, including the introduction of a new currency system, which helped to stabilize the economy and promote trade in the region. The Teston coin was a key part of this new currency system, and it remained in circulation for many years, becoming a popular and widely-used coin throughout the region.
